Dr. Narendra Kumar is currently serving as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Smart Materials, Structures and Systems (SMSS) Lab, Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur under the guidance of Professor Bishakh Bhattacharya.
As a postdoc I am working on the project titled "Design and Development of Model Cargo-Hyperloop using Pipe Following Robot". My work involves investigating the fluid dynamics of a cargo wagon traveling inside a pipeline, driven by compressed air pressure. The study involves conducting numerical simulations using Ansys Fluent to calculate critical aerodynamic parameters such as drag forces, vortex structures, pressure distributions, and flow instabilities around the wagon. These simulations focus on a cylindrical module, representative of a cargo wagon designed to transport materials like coal. The module travels axially within a sealed pipeline, with compressed air supplied at the pipe inlet to generate propulsion. In addition to numerical analysis, experimental tests are being conducted on a full-scale transportation prototype to validate the findings. The research aims to optimize the design of the pipeline and cargobot system for maximum energy efficiency and operational stability. Inspired by Hyperloop technology, this work explores the integration of low-friction travel concepts, leveraging compressed air as an economical and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional propulsion systems.
